How many ways can you can peaches? Let me count the ways....
I do not can. I do not know how to can, therefore I do not can. I have always just decided that I CAN not. Ok, maybe that was a bad pun, however, the point I'm trying to get to is that I decided this year to can a few things.
It was on a whim, but hey, I'm a Mormon woman. And what are Mormon woman supposed to do? Stay at home and think of things to sew and can...besides those five instruments you're supposed to be playing, food storage you're supposed to be keeping up on for your family AND the mormons across the street who aren't doing thiers...and don't forget your visiting teaching... Are you taking notes?
SO...this year I got the idea when Tammy told me that her daughter was starting a little peach business and was selling half busshels...so yeah, I bought a whole one. Now...these peaches Are GOOOOOD. But a whole busshel is a lot for my little family!! (I actually bought one and a half, but the half went to the mormons across the street. See how this works?) ANYway so yeah, I got a lesson from Tammy, read up online, and got a few tips from a loving sister, mother, and grandma. I'm pretty much a peach canning goddess now.
I've canned sliced peaches, peach butter (thank you april), peach jam, peach and plum jam (thank you grandma), and frozen enough peaches to make smoothies and fresh peach cobbler that shall keep until next year...when I shall again buy another busshel of peaches (plus a half probably for some mormon) and can my nights away into rashes from a million little fussy slivers between my fingers, up my wrists, and around my mouth...and don't forget the ones you get on the tip of you nose...do you get those too?;)
Ummmm.....how about some peach dump cake??? YEAH!
